GeoffJ New Member. I have been successfully using a Surface Pro 3 in a dock with two monitors, one via an HDMI adaptor in the mini display port in the dock, the other via a VGA adaptor in the on board mini display port in the Surface Pro 3.
Suddenly the monitor used via the dock HDMI has stopped displaying. After taking the following diagnostic steps I believe the problem is somewhere in the Surface Pro 3 software config because I think I have eliminated everything else. Therefore both monitors and adaptors are working properly. Therefore I believe the dock is okay So this leaves me with the Surface Pro 3. Continuing to troubleshoot, I disconnected all cables from the dock then reconnected the power to the dock, inserted the SP3, and then connected a monitor to the dock.

Sometimes the system can go through an unstable phase of switching between the monitors and surface book display 30 times or more in a 5 minute period.

Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. I just ran the diagnostic toolkit and it told me to reboot. This didn't fix the issue between the dock and the computer.
I have also run the update on the dock. Since the update, the issue has become worse where I always have to open the computer and close it again for it to switch to the monitor.

I run 2 screens. At boot-up, half the time I can't see the logon screen until I open and then close the lid of my Computer. Also, it is hit and miss whether or not my wireless keyboard and mouse work when plugged into the dock.
I usually have to remove the adapter and plug it into the computer. I am tired of this. Does anyone have a fix or should I return my computer and go with another brand i know will not have these problem before my return policy expires?

Unfortunately, there are no customer accessible firmware updates. Microsoft gave up on the dongle. Troubleshoot connecting Surface to a second screen
It was manufactured in August of You have the latest firmware so it should be working with their hardware and software. The fact that the monitor works connecting directly to the Surface Book points to the dock. You should post the issues on the Surface Forum and see if other Surface users can relate their Dell monitor experience and if they can offer some insight or troubleshooting steps.
Chris I'm having this same issue. I have two UH monitors I'm trying to hook up to the Surface dock via displayport daisy chained.
Similarly, I can hook them up directly to the surface and it works in the daisy chained configuration. I've updated dock firmware and am using high quality mDP to DP cable. How do I check the firmware of the monitors? Would updating it help?
And if so, how do I go about doing that? The fact that they work in daisy chained configuration without the dock means that the monitors are functioning correctly. The fault has to be the dock or how the dock is communicating to the Surface. We do not have any mechanism in place to allow customers to update the firmware on this monitor.
The revision is on the rear label. Do you know if the updated firmware will fix this issue? And is it possible to send them in to have you do it?
